WANO
WANO Young Generation (WANO YG) is a network for collaborating with existing young nuclear organizations. It will empower these groups - nationally, regionally and internationally - by working together with existing YG organizations, such as the IYNC and the ENS YGN to coordinate activities.
After Chernobyl the leaders of every commercial nuclear reactor in the world set aside their competitive and regional differences and came together in 1989 to create the World Association of Nuclear Operators, or WANO. Its mission was clear: To maximise the safety and reliability of nuclear power plants worldwide by working together to assess, benchmark and improve performance through mutual support, exchange of information and emulation of best practices.WANO has evolved significantly from its inaugural meeting in Moscow on 15 May 1989. Today, it represents more than 120 members who operate more than 430 civil nuclear power reactors around the world. In addition to cooperating with the existing YG organizations, WANO YG intends to offer specific activities to young professionals working for WANO members, including, for example, participation in peer reviews (PRs) or member support missions (MSMs) taking place at their nuclear power facility.
Young Professionals Seminar - Innovation and Improvement in a #Nuclear World has taken place at WANO Paris Centre on 27-28 July 2023. The seminar has showcase #innovative ideas and projects from member stations, which have resulted in improving performance, as well as providing an introduction to WANO. Guest speakers from Paris Centre and other Regional Centres will provide an insight into WANO's services and support of its members and the WANO Young Generation Network.
